Conscious Media-Making Course
Conscious Good Creators Network presents an introductory course in Consciousness Media-Making with Integral Cinema Project Founder and Executive Director Mark Allan Kaplan, Ph.D. for anyone who wants to use media to raise individual and collective consciousness.
About the Course
In this introductory course we will explore what is conscious media-making, what are some of the different potential forms of conscious media-making, and how different states and stages of consciousness effect the media-making process. We will also be exploring how these structures of consciousness within us are communicated between us, the works we create and the individuals and collectives that experience our works…and how this knowledge can be used to create deeper and more transformative media experiences for creators and viewers on the individual and collective levels.About the Instructor
Mark Allan Kaplan, Ph.D. is an award-winning filmmaker, transdisciplinary artist and media psychologist and researcher, and founder and executive director of the Integral Cinema Project. As an artist and media-maker Mark has been exploring conscious art and media since childhood, attempting to use these creative mediums to help himself transcend his own communication challenges of being a severe childhood stutterer and find his "voice" and use that voice to help raise the consciousness of himself, others and the world. He is considered by many to be one of the pioneers in the conscious and transpersonal media movements and is the world's leading researcher and theorist in the application of Integral Theory to the cinematic arts. Integral Goes to the Movies on YouTube
Acclaimed filmmaker and Integral Cinema Project founder Mark Allan Kaplan, Ph.D. presents a mind-blowing new way to look at and think about the moving image in all its evolving forms. This March 16, 2016 talk for Bay Area Integral at the Rudramandir Center in Berkeley, CA has been turbocharged with dozens of visual aids and nearly 100 film clips to create a multi-dimensional visceral experience of the evolution of cinematic consciousness.

Integral Cinema Project Research Partner Report: Project Catch-IT Article Now Available
The latest research article from the Integral Cinema Project's partner project "Project Catch-IT" is now available online. The article explores the latest findings and approach, including how we used an integral approach to media design to help create a technology-based mental health intervention for teens with depression.

Robin Williams Multimedia Tribute at MetaIntegral
MetaIntegral Foundation wanted to pay tribute to the late Robin Williams from an integral perspective, so they asked me to create it as their resident integral movie expert. I was deeply honored by their invitation and jumped at the change, since I was already exploring this loss from an integral and complex thought perspective for myself.
The experience of writing this work was a deeply personal one because the loss of Robin Williams touched me profoundly, as it did for so many. As this piece evolved it became both a deeply heartfelt and reflective work and a sort of multimedia virtual wake experience as I was drawn to and included relevant video clips of Robin.
I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and thank MetaIntegral for their encouragement and support.
Rest in peace, Robin.

Exploring an Integral Approach to Multimedia Mental Health Interventions
As part of the Integral Cinema Project’s outreach
application process, I recently consulted on a multimedia mental health
intervention project at the University of Chicago and the University of
Illinois at Chicago Schools of Medicine helping them apply an Integral approach
to deepen the power and effect of their intervention. The researchers already
had intuitively fleshed out the need for an intervention that addressed the
intentional, behavioral, cultural, and social dimensions of the issue at hand,
namely helping teens at risk learn to become more resilient in the face of the
often daunting challenges of growing up in today’s fast moving and complicated
world.
To help the research team apply and integrate these four
main intervention dimensions in a more coordinated and effective way I created
an Integrally-Informed Sensory Synchronization Template for the project,
mapping the four intervention dimensions of intentional, behavioral, cultural,
and social across the multimedia expressive dimensions of Text, Image (still
& moving), Sound, Time (accumulated meaning patterns), and Interactivity. This
integration of the intervention and expression dimensions included the mapping
of desired affect patterns and their relationship to expressive modalities
including textual linguistic and mimetic patterns; visual shapes, colors,
tones, framing and space; audio modalities (dialogic, musical, atmospheric,
effectual, etc.); and meaning patterns accumulated over time.
The goal of this approach was to help them coordinate the
intervention across multiple modes of expression and perception to induce what
cinematic theorist Sergei Eisenstein called the synchronization of the senses, the process in which a message,
synchronized across multiple expressive dimensions, achieves the power and
force of actual lived multi-sensory experience. This shift from mere
information sharing to a deeply felt lived-experience has the potential to
induce deep change and transformation across all four dimensions of intention,
behavior, relationship formation, and socialization patterns.
This research is still ongoing but initial results suggest a
great potential for this approach, and its application for use in multimedia
mental health interventions, and other multimedia transformational healing
endeavors, including transformational learning, and individual and collective
human development applications.
